(HAMMOND) - A Hammond man will spend five years in prison for burglarizing the home of a city police officer in April.
39-year-old James Higgason III was sentenced Monday in Lake County for felony burglary. Court records show a lengthy criminal history involving 17 arrests since 1987.
Following his release, Higgason will also spend six years on probation.
His co-defendant -- 34-year-old Ronald Hamilton -- was sentenced last week to seven years in prison for the same crime.
