(UNDATED) - There’s a new online safety course for off road vehicle operators.
The course helps drivers to be aware that there's much more to it than just starting the machine and punching the throttle. The course was developed by the same company who created the Department of Natural Resources' online hunting and boating education programs.
Captain David Windsor with the DNR's law enforcement division says Indiana averages over 275 off road vehicle crashes and 11 deaths each year.
The entire online safety program is free, but certification is available for a $30 fee. That would satisfy any future state-mandated off road vehicle training requirements and may also be valid in other states, like Michigan, where training is required.
Type "Indiana ORV safety course" in your search engine to find the online program.
