(INDIANAPOLIS) - Authorities are charging three people with possessing and dealing narcotic drugs in the parking lot of the Roudebush V.A. Medical Center.
Veterans 58-year-old Ronald Northington and 52-year-old Douglas Wilkinson were in a rehabilitation work study program at the hospital.
Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi says the two veterans were allegedly serving as brokers, buying heroin from a third parking on behalf of about 10 to 15 hospital employees and skimming a little off the top for their brokerage fee.
39-year-old Marcus Harris is also charged with selling the heroin to the two veterans.
Brizzi says Northington and Wilkinson had no contact with patients and no patients were involved in any drug deals.
Authorities began their investigation in November and believe the deals date back to at least May of this year. Police are working with the defendants to identify the employees involved in the drug buys.
Brizzi says heroin cases are very rare and crack cocaine is still the "drug of choice" in Marion County.
