(ZIONSVILLE) - A family-owned oil and gas distribution business burnt to the ground in Zionsville Sunday afternoon.
The blaze at Taylor Oil Company was reported shortly after noon. Several fire departments responded to assist Zionsville officials including Carmel, Fishers, Indianapolis, and Pike Township in Marion County.
Witnesses at a bar and restaurant across the street from the fire say the blaze spread so quickly, there was no hope of saving the structure or its contents. The large pole barn contained a tanker truck and several oil drums that were heard exploding at the scene.
Fire officials were forced to let the building burn out, but used foam and water to contain the fire to the one structure. No residences or businesses were evacuated, but environmental officials monitored the air quality and crews dug a trench to prevent the foam-water run-off from reaching the Little Eagle Creek.
Traffic on Zionsville Road was blocked from 106th street up to the south edge of the town limits as large fire hose carried water down the street to the scene.
No injuries were reported.
The business was closed at the time of the fire which remains under investigation.
