(INDIANAPOLIS) - Police are reporting a sharp increase in vehicle thefts due to the cold weather.
Investigators say owners are making their cars and trucks an easy target for thieves by leaving them unattended while it warms up.
Indianapolis Police Sergeant Matthew Mount says thieves look for vehicles with their keys in the ignition, running and ready to go.
He says your only defense is to stay with your car while it warms up.
