(UNDATED) - AAA predicts fewer of us are traveling this holiday period than last year.
It's the first decline in the Christmas/New Years period since 2002.
In fact it's not just this holiday week that some predictions called for less of us to board a plane, train or automobile... predictions also called for fewer travelers Memorial Day, the Fourth of July and labor day.
In the Midwest, AAA says 9.6 million of us travel for the holidays--that is down about three percent from last year.
Of the nine million on the go about eight million will go by car, a cheaper mode of transportation this year because gas prices are down about a buck from this time last year.
