(UNDATED) - About 200 soldiers from an Indiana National Guard unit will be deployed to Afghanistan later this year.
About 45 others are going to Iraq. Both units are based in Indianapolis.
The bigger contingent--from the 38th Infantry Division--will help provide housing and training for American soldiers in Afghanistan as well as assisting the Afghan government with security, construction and agricultural projects.
The 939th Military Police detachment will deploy to Iraq after training at Fort Dix, New Jersey.
