Bayh: Unanswered Questions In National Guard Toxic Exposure Case

Last updated on Thursday, February 12, 2009

(UNDATED) - Remember the Indiana National Guard members exposed to a toxic chemical in Iraq? There may be more to the story.

It's possible that more soldiers--in three other states--were exposed.

Indiana Senator Evan Bayh and Senator Byron Dorgan of North Dakota say there are a lot of unanswered questions in the case.

One big one--why haven't guard troops from Oregon, South Carolina and West Virginia been told that they may have been exposed to the substance called hexavalent chromium.

The Indiana troops didn't learn of their exposure until they saw employers of contractor KBR wearing special clothing.

Bayh and Dorgan are asking for an explanation from the Army and Defense Secretary Robert Gates.
