(SOUTH BEND) - A South Bend man yesterday protested his property taxes by using 11 sacks of coins to cover the $4,000 dollar cost.
Richard Ross wanted to protest the discrepancy in tax assessments between his home and a rental property he owns. He claims the two homes are the same size and value but the taxes are four times higher on the rental home.
Ross and the county treasurer took the coins to a bank to have them counted automatically. He was short $1.07, which he paid out of pocket with a dollar bill, a nickel and two pennies.
