(GARRETT) - A lawsuit has been filed by the family of a 66-year-old man who was found dead the day after he was in a car wreck.
The relatives want damages from the police agencies that investigated the crash, but did not find the man or his 14-year-old autistic grandson.
Officers responded to the 911 calls on February 18th of last year--but they but didn't check the vehicle. They assumed it belonged to someone gathering firewood in the area near Garrett, north of Fort Wayne.
The next day, the frozen body of Duane Squire of Avilla was found in the field. His grandson was found unhurt, but cold, in the car.
The suit seeks unspecified damages, citing the boy's physical and emotional trauma.
Dekalb County officials declined immediate comment on the suit.
