(GARY) - If there was any doubt that the public feels strongly about Northern Indiana Public Service Company’s proposed electric rate increase, the huge turn-out Tuesday night for a hearing on the plan should have erased that doubt.
The large Savannah Auditorium, on the campus of Indiana University Northwest in Gary, was filled to capacity long before the hearing's scheduled 5:00pm start.
Security prevented the hundreds more who gathered in the lobby from entering the auditorium. In addition, another security guard at the building's main entrance prevented hundreds more from entering the building.
LaPorte County Attorney Shaw Friedman says the turn-out demonstrates the strong feelings against the proposed hike.
Representatives of the Indiana Regulatory Commission heard more than five hours of testimony last night, from those who were able to attend the public hearing.
