(ELKHART) - Governor Mitch Daniels visited economically hard-hit Elkhart Thursday to announce seven companies will invest over $22.6 million to add over 500 jobs in North Central Indiana.
The governor made the announcement during a stop at Ivy Tech in Elkhart. Most of the companies who are already in the region or plan to relocate from Illinois or Michigan will be making facility upgrades and adding jobs.
Six of the companies will add manufacturing jobs while another plans to add information technology positions and more customer service associates.
Daniels says for this project, the state is using some federal funding that it asked for last year, not the recent stimulus money.
The governor also met with students, business executives and Elkhart officials to discuss workforce training and economic development for the region.
