Connersville Officials Prepping For Carbon Motors Visit

Last updated on Monday, April 20, 2009

(CONNERSVILLE) - One of the hardest hit cities in Indiana’s employment slump is counting on its roots in the automotive industry to bring a new employer, and new jobs, to town.

Connersville is one of the finalists for a new Carbon Motors plant. Carbon Motors is the manufacturer of the Carbon E7 purpose built law enforcement patrol vehicle, built specifically to handle the needs and rigors of police and Homeland Security departments.

Officials from Carbon Motors will come to Indiana for a two-day tour, starting in Connersville on Tuesday, May 5, to meet with local officials and visit the proposed Carbon Motors campus. Carbon Motors officials also will meet with state legislators and tour a proposed training center for prospective Carbon Motors employees.

Connersville was known as "Little Detroit" in the early 20th century when it was the home of such automobile manufacturers as the Auburn, Cord, Duesenberg, Ansted, Empire, Lexington and McFarland. It was the home for years to a Philco-Ford plant, and still is the home of Stant Manufacturing, making gas, radiator and oil caps for motor vehicles.
