(ROCKPORT) - A replica of Abe Lincoln’s casket will be on display today at the Spencer County Courthouse, 144 years to the day after the nation’s 16th president was killed at Ford’s Theater.
It's part of a Lincoln funeral tribute beginning at noon with a wreath-laying at the courthouse, followed by public viewing of the casket in the rotunda from noon to midnight. Melissa Miller of the Spencer County Visitors Bureau, says they typically celebrate Lincoln's boyhood, but this event mimics the aftermath of his death.
She says there's an insatiable curiosity about how he died. The casket replica travels across the country and was created by Indiana-based Batesville Casket Company.
