(NEW CARLISLE) - Governor Mitch Daniels named Chelesa Arthur of New Carlisle as Indiana’s Top Young Scientist for 2009.
Daniels presented her with a trophy and a $10,000 check during the 21st annual Hoosier Science and Engineering Fair on Saturday.
The competition showcased more than 100 of the top science fair projects from Hoosier students in grades 9-12.
The governor says he wants the real "rock stars" in Indiana to be the state's top students, particularly math and science students. Arthur is a New Prairie High School senior and will participate in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Reno, Nevada next month.
She plans to attend Purdue University to study chemical engineering and political science.
