(LAPEL) - All that is left of Hickory Furniture Design is a pile of rubble. Fire consumed the Lapel, Indiana furniture factory Wednesday morning.
Firefighters arrived at the scene about five minutes after a 911 call reporting the fire.
In just a short period of time the fire had grown out of control, engulfed the building, and flames were shooting through the roof. The fire was so intense, a large, thick, black plume of smoke could be seen several miles away from the Northside of Indianapolis.
An estimated 12 employees who were inside the structure when it caught fire made it out safely. The owner of the furniture factory says a spark from a tool ignited the fire.
However, the state fire marshal has been called to the scene since an official cause has not been determined.
The building is estimated to be worth $200,000, and its content worth an equal amount.
