(KNIGHTSTOWN) - The Daniels Administration still plans to close The Soldiers’ And Sailors’ Children’s Home near Knightstown.
The budget may prove to be his ally.
Defenders of the state home and school for troubled or needy youth say closing the home now would fly in the face of legislative intent.
Separate spending plans produced by the house and senate, and the final budget bill that failed to pass, all included about ten million dollars to keep the school open for a least one more year.
But what's the legislature's intent, when no budget won final approval?
It's the budget that emerges from the special session yet to come that counts.
And if the general assembly doesn't give the governor the reduction that he wants, he may have to use his own budget-cutting authority, wherever he sees the greatest need.
