(INDIANAPOLIS) - A chief engineer with Ford Motor Company stopped in Indianapolis Wednesday to demonstrate the company’s first hybrid mid-size car, the 2010 Ford Fusion.
Lisa Drake with Ford's hybrid and battery electric vehicle programs says a Fusion hybrid recently achieved 81.5 miles per gallon using drivers trained in mileage-maximizing techniques.
Some of the techniques take advantage of the car's ability to run on pure electric power at speeds under 47 mph.
The EPA rating for the vehicle is 41 miles per gallon on the highway, 36 in the city.
Drake says orders for the 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid are being taken now at Ford dealers.
