(FORT WAYNE) - A Fort Wayne man is accused of murdering his mother and daughter and leaving their bodies in a Michigan motel room.
40-year-old Johan Vanniekerk was charged Monday with killing his 72-year-old mother and three-year-old child.
Officers found the two bodies Friday after being called to the Marshall Comfort Inn to check on a person's welfare. Fort Wayne police say they began their search for Vanniekerk early that morning following a domestic battery complaint.
He was arraigned in Calhoun County district court in Battle Creek, Michigan on two counts of open murder and one count of first-degree child abuse.
His next court appearance has not been scheduled.
