(NEW CASTLE) - A New Castle woman will spend six months in federal prison for filing false income tax returns.
Prosecutors say 70-year-old Linda Whitehead believed she was not required to pay income taxes and did not file returns between 1999 and 2001.
She declared bankruptcy in 2003 and filed income tax returns for those years, but failed to report all of the income she had received.
US Attorney Tim Morrison says the IRS claims the discrepancy resulted in a total income tax loss of more than 80-thousand dollars.
Following her release from prison, Whitehead will spend three years under supervision and pay 100-thousand dollars in fines.
