Swine Flu Fears Close Wabash Schools

Last updated on Friday, May 1, 2009

(WABASH) - School officials in Wabash, Indiana cancelled classes Thursday and Friday because of the human strain of swine flu.

Wabash Middle School and High School closed because of flu concerns.

A Wabash Middle School student has symptoms of the flu and is under a doctor's care. Superintendent Ceilia Shand sent a message to students and parents Thursday morning.

The release made it clear that the action was only a precautionary measure and officials are saying there is no cause for alarm.

Superintendent Shand also mentioned the State Department of Health said the schools could remain open. Both schools will undergo a deep cleaning.

Two local elementary schools remain open and no extra circular activities were canceled.
