(STATEHOUSE) - Budget negotiations between the house and senate begin this morning, after an unsuccessful attempt to cut to the chase.
House republicans asked speaker Patrick Bauer to skip the usual negotiations and allow an immediate vote on the senate version of the budget.
The house rejected the proposal on a voice vote that appeared to track party lines.
Bauer says the senate budget would be devastating to public schools, especially those with declining enrollment.
