(INDIANAPOLIS) - Attendees of the 44th annual Strawberry Festival on Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis today can help a community food drive by bringing donations to the popular event.
Senator Richard Lugar is hosting the drive for Gleaners Food Bank from 9 to 5.
Gleaners President and CEO Pam Altmeyer says residents often forget that Hoosiers go hungry year-round.
She says food drives in the summer are more scarce and more important because students do not have access to school meals.
Altmeyer says they're accepting non-perishable items in bins on the circle.
From there, the donations will go back to the food bank before being distributed to the 400 charities that rely on gleaners to help those in need.
