(STATEHOUSE) - Senator Brandt Hershman says planning the state budget is no easy task. Hershman was appointed to a special joint budget committee early this month.
Hershman is the chairman of the Tax and Fiscal Policy Committee making him responsible for working on the revenue part of the budget.
Hershman says Indiana gets its money from income tax, corporate tax and sales tax and during a recession, the state doesn't get as much money.
He says the Senate does not want a one year budget as proposed by the house, for fear of spending all the federal stimulus money.
The Senate also backs the governor's wishes of keeping nearly a billion dollars in reserve.
