(TERRE HAUTE) - A former Vigo County Commissioner spent his first night in jail, Friday, of a five month prison sentence.
53-year old David Decker received the sentence on a charge of dealing methamphetamine.
He admitted distributing more than three grams of a mixture containing the highly addictive drug.
During Friday's sentencing, Decker told the judge he'd turned to drugs after having low periods in his life.
But Federal Judge William T. Lawrence told him: "you and you alone let your addiction change the course of your life."
Decker had been a Commissioner in 2007, and was selected as board president in 2008.
He stepped down from power this past April.
