Police Departments To Receive 26 Million In Stimulus

Last updated on Thursday, July 30, 2009

(MUNCIE) - Indiana Police Departments are getting 26-million dollars in stimulus funds to hire or rehire 126 law enforcement officers.

The Obama Administrations says the grants will provide 100% of the approved salary and benefits for the officers for three years with local government responsible for the fourth year.

Among the 21 Indiana police agencies listed, Muncie is scheduled to receive just over one point 16 million dollars.

Mayor Sharon McShurley says she needs more details about the guidelines for using the federal government money before committing the city to the handout.
