(UNDATED) - State School Superintendent Tony Bennett says proposed new rules on teacher licensing will make it easier to hire good teachers.
Bennett wants to make greater use of teachers whose college majors weren't education, but the subjects they want to teach.
He's calling for middle and high school teachers to earn their degree in their subject area, with a minor in education.
Elementary teachers could either follow the same route, or reverse it, with an education major and a minor in a classroom-relevant content area.
