(STATEHOUSE) - A powerful legislator and the state’s two biggest universities are in talks to resolve a standoff over tuition hikes.
Senate Appropriations Chairman Luke Kenley yanked construction projects for Purdue and Indiana Universities off the agenda for this week's state budget committee hearing, effectively blocking them.
Kenley says it's the only lever available to him to force Purdue and IU to reconsider tuition hikes at the upper reaches of recommendations from the commission for higher education.
