(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Soldiers and Sailors Monument in downtown Indianapolis is set to receive a major makeover later this month.
The observation deck is leaking, causing corrosion of the massive structure's inner support system.
Brigadier General J. Stewart says deck replacement will begin around August 21st and last a little more than a month.
The most noticeable change will involve the deck's slanted windows.
Crews will install vertical replacements to help keep water from leaking into the structure.
The project is expected to cost about $600,000, the same amount it took to build the entire monument in 1902.
