(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - A full honors, military funeral was held Monday for a retired Indiana Army National Guard General.
General Robert Moorhead was laid to rest at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis following a ceremony that featured a military flyover by Blackhawk helicopters and a thunderous artillery salute.
Major General Martin Umbarger says Moorhead served during World War II in the US and Europe and then entered the Indiana Army National Guard.
He later became commanding general of the 38th infantry division.
The general also headed many Indianapolis Community Organizations and was chairman of the Indianapolis 500 Festival in 1963.
He later helped organize the annual armed forces day celebration at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the mini-marathon.
Moorehead was 88.
