(HAMMOND, IN) - Two Hammond teens are being held in connection with the robbery and murder of an elderly couple.
17-year-old Reo Thompson and 18-year-old Gregory Brooks Jr. Both lived within half a mile of the slain couple's home.
Lake County Prosecutor Bernard Carter says the two are facing nine charges each, including robbery, burglary, confinement and auto theft, but have yet to be charged with murder.
Investigators are awaiting forensic test results before proceeding with the case.
Court records indicate several witnesses saw brooks driving the couple's green Cadillac and saw him in possession of a rifle, a .38-special and a small-caliber pistol following the murders.
78-year-old Milton McClendon and his 76-year-old wife, Ruby, were found shot to death in an Illinois forest preserve.
A probable cause affidavit indicates Thompson killed the couple after the two robbed their home of money and jewelry and binded them in a closet.
The McClendons are the parents of CLTV host Garrard McClendon.
