(UNDATED) - Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller is urging greater reliance on the address confidentiality program for victims of domestic violence, stalking and sexual assault.
The program was created by the general assembly in 2001. Victims' mail is sent to the Attorney General's Office and forwarded in a secure manner to their real addresses.
In the 12 months ending June 30th, the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence reports 51 deaths related to domestic violence in the state.
Zoller says "that number alone suggests to me that it's very important for people to take advantage of all the tools that they have available and the address confidentiality could be a very important one."
In the same period, the ICAD says emergency shelters in Indiana served more than 8,000 adults and children and crisis hotlines received nearly 100,000 calls.
This is domestic violence awareness month.
