(FORT WAYNE, IN) - A Fort Wayne soldier is winning the hearts and minds of Iraqi children with beanie babies.
Sergeant David Sheppard, who is on his second tour of duty in Iraq, is the son of longtime Easter Seals Arc Employee Judy Sheppard.
He told his mom he would like something to give to Iraqi children when they run up to him, so she began collecting beanie babies for him.
When Easter Seals Arc in Fort Wayne started "Operation Beanie Baby" in September to collect even more of the critters, they were inundated by a surge of 10,000 beanie baby donations.
