(CARMEL, IN) - 66-year-old State Representative Ed Delaney was severely beaten in Carmel Saturday morning.
Carmel Police got a call from a witness who said she saw Selaney in a vehicle with another man.
When police arrived they found the man, 38-year-old Augustus Mendenhall standing over Delaney repeatedly punching him in the head.
Mendenhall fled the scene when he saw police but was taken down with a taser after a short foot chase.
He was taken to St. Vincent's hospital in Carmel to be checked out then was transported to the Hamilton County Jail where he is being held without bond.
He faces several felony charges including attempted murder.
Delaney was taken to Methodist Hospital with head and facial injuries.
Delaney had reportedly not met Mendenhall before the attack.
