December 1st Marks World Aids Day

Last updated on Tuesday, December 1, 2009

(UNDATED) - December 1st is World Aids Day.

The Centers for Disease Control says there are over one million people in the U.S. living with HIV, the virus that causes aids and one out of five of them don't know they are infected.

In Marion County, Planned Parenthood of Indiana is offering HIV/Aids testing at half the normal $25 cost.

The half-price testing is made possible by a grant from the Indiana Aids Fund and is being offered until the funding runs out.

Betty Cochrum, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Indiana, says the half-price offer is also available in Mishawaka, Kokomo and Warsaw through their "Recession RX" program for unemployed or under insured Hoosiers.

Cochrum says not everyone with HIV develops Aids.

But she says the testing is needed so that people with HIV get treatment and they avoid passing the virus on to their partners.
