(KOKOMO, IN) - Governor Mitch Daniels says the Kokomo segment of the U.S. 31 corridor project has been accelerated and should open to traffic at the end of 2013.
That's two years earlier than scheduled.
All but the southern portion of the highway stretching from South Bend to Indianapolis will be completed by the end of 2014.
Traffic has already opened on two new county road bridges over the planned highway near Kokomo and two miles of new highway are under construction.
Ten miles of new highway is being built between Plymouth and South Bend, scheduled to open at the end of 2014.
