Police Officer And His K-9 Killed In Accident

(MISHAWAKA, IN) - A Mishawaka police officer and his K-9 partner were killed in a weekend traffic accident.

42-year-old James Szuba was providing assistance on a call when his squad car was sideswiped by another vehicle.

The driver of that vehicle has been identified as 31-year-old Shawn Devine. Police believe alcohol is a factor in the crash.

Szuba joined the Mishawaka Police Department in 2002.

His K-9 partner Ricky was 8-years old.
