(VALPARAISO, IN) - An increase in male nursing students at Valparaiso University is part of a national trend.
More men are pursuing a career in nursing helping to break down years of stereotyping.
Dr Janet Brown is the dean of the college of nursing at Valpo, she says the increase in males brings great value to the nursing program and the profession as a whole.
Dr Brown says male nurses help bring a different perspective.
Men are also looking into a nursing career because of the economy.
The percentage of male nursing majors has increased from 3% in 2000 to 9% this year.
