(WASHINGTON, DC) - The Food and Drug Administration has slapped the American Red Cross with a $16 million dollar fine for what it says are shoddy procedures surrounding blood donation.
The FDA says the mistakes did not endanger patients, but says the Red Cross still hasn't fixed problems outlined in a legal settlement seven years ago.
The government says it found numerous violations in inspections of a dozen Red Cross facilities, including the Louisville region, which covers southern Indiana.
The Red Cross says it's made significant progress since those inspections two years ago.
