(UNDATED) - Seven advanced battery technology projects throughout the state have been green lighted by the federal government so far.
More than $350 million in federal grants have gone to companies in Elkhart, Kokomo, West Lafayette, Muncie and Indianapolis to produce batteries or electric vehicles.
The grants are intended to jumpstart the state's green economy, create thousands of jobs and advance the Obama Administration's goal of energy independence.
