(UNDATED) - Medicare supporters are celebrating the program’s 45th birthday.
The Indiana Alliance for Retired Americans calls it the most successful government programs in U.S. history.
The organization's Elmer Blakenship applauds the increased coverage under the new health care law and says fellow senior citizens should support the effort.
He says two-thirds of seniors are above the poverty level because of Medicare saving them money.
960,000 Hoosiers use Medicare for basic health needs.
