(LAWRENCE, IN) - Investigators have concluded that it was arson that caused the fire that killed a mother and small child in Lawrence Sunday night.
"What had made it suspicious right from the start there were two different points of origin," says Lawrence Fire Battalion Chief Dino Batalis.
And a hallway smoke alarm was missing.
It's still not clear what happened to it.
"When the 911 call came in, the neighbor that went over there said that she smelled smoke... and the windows were blackened," says Batalis.
With that, he says, it seems likely that the victims died of smoke inhalation.
