(STATEHOUSE) - Indiana Secretary of State named his second in command Monday following the resignation last week of Deputy Secretary Sean Keefer.
Secretary Charlie White appointed Jerold Bonnet to the deputy post, citing his knowledge of Indiana Election Law.
Bonnet previously served as Deputy Secretary of State during parts of 2008 and 2009.
The appointment came as another statewide elected official urged white to step aside during his trial on charges of voter fraud.
State Auditor Tim Berry says the case makes it difficult for Hoosier voters to trust the man they elected.
White has been indicted on seven felony charges, including voter fraud, theft and perjury.
A message left Monday morning at White's Statehouse Office for Bonnet was unreturned.
