(VERNON, IN) - A Jennings County teen will spend most of his adult life behind bars for trying to break out.
Circuit Court Judge Jon Webster sentenced 18-year-old James A. Smith to 76 years in prison with 12 years suspended.
Smith was convicted of attempted murder, kidnapping and battery on a corrections officer.
In October 2009, Smith tried to break out of the Jennings County jail, stabbing two prison guards in the process.
