(UNDATED) - Indiana remembers the death of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Somewhat differently than in other parts of the nation.
Then presidential hopeful Robert F. Kennedy is credited with keeping the peace in Indianapolis when other cities were rioting in reaction to the news.
Robert Boomhower with the Indiana Historical Society wrote a book in 2008 about Kennedy's Presidential Campaign in Indiana.
He says Kennedy was on the campaign trail and learned King had been shot while in Muncie.
His death was confirmed by the time Kennedy arrived to the airport in Indianapolis.
Boomhower says Kennedy was encouraged to address the public at his advertised campaign stop to discuss King's death and try to prevent riots.
Boomhower says Kennedy's words from the heart comparing his brother's death to King's created a moment unique to Indianapolis that will never be forgotten.
