(UNDATED) - The U.S. Senate rejected Thursday an amendment that would have banned any federal funding for Planned Parenthood.
This comes after the U.S. House approved the measure. After the amendment was rejected, Betty Cockrum, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Indiana, said she is pleased with the senate's decision.
Cockrum says the measure, introduced by Indiana Rep. Mike Pence, overlooked the fact that, by law, Planned Parenthood cannot use any federal funds for abortions.
She says supporters of the measure wanted to block funding simply because Planned Parenthood provides abortions.
Planned Parenthood of Indiana has 28 locations around the state.
