(BROWNSTOWN) - The Jackson County town of Brownstown has $25,000 from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to use toward community development.
Brownstown won the "Back Home Again In Indiana" challenge created to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the motor speedway all over the state.
Public Relations Director Doug Boles says 26 communities participated by decorating their main streets or town squares however they saw fit to celebrate the anniversary.
The Brownstown Chamber of Commerce led the community in an "All Things 100" campaign. Businesses put decorations, the nursing home collected stories of past races, and 100 veterans had their picture taken on the courthouse lawn.
Chamber President Debbie Hackman says the $25,000 prize will be used toward the development of a walking trail through town to promote healthy living.
