(STATEHOUSE) - Governor Daniels signed the education bill on teacher evaluations into law.
The law changes the way teachers are evaluated and uses those evaluations to make decisions on hiring, salary and promotions.
Daniels says the new law is meant to help teachers.
The bill will not allow students to be taught by a teacher who has been rated ineffective for two straight years without parental approval.
The bill will also allow schools to take action against parents whose children are habitually absent and requires schools to report the children to juvenile court or the Department of Child Services.
