(UNDATED) - Indiana Department of Homeland Security Director Joe Wainscott says his office was on full alert for the storms that hit the state Wednesday.
Wainscott says IDHS operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and workers in the department were on call.
IDHS can activate the Indiana National Guard during emergency situations including weather incidents with the approval of the governor.
Wainscott says his office improved coordination among local police agencies through training and incident management activities.
