(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Indiana Senator Dan Coats calls President Obama’s decision not to release the photos of a dead Osama Bin Laden “understandable.”
Coats serves on the Intelligence Committee, and took up the administration on an invitation to the 15 committee members to see the pictures.
He describes the pictures as graphic, and says releasing them would probably whip up anti-American anger among muslim militants.
Coats says there's no question the dead man is bin laden.
He says it'll take months to sift through millions of electronic and paper documents seized from Bin Laden's compound in Pakistan.
But even before that task is complete, he predicts a psychological blow to Al-Qaeda, as terrorists fret about just what the U.S. has learned.
Coats praises the Navy Seal raid which killed the terrorist leader as a sign that the U.S. Military and Intelligence Arms are working seamlessly together, after years of frustration over the difficulty of getting different branches of the government to coordinate their efforts.
